problems with footage
After the shoot in Leeds, i captured teh footage shot from the JVC and Matt Weston captured his from his SONY, my capture was fine and ready to edit but when i collected the footage from weston i found a horrible problem when i came to import it into Adobe Prem, Weston had used final cut pro to capture his footage and exported it out through this, when put in to prem, a error would arise staing that there was a codec missing, this was down to the joys of apple and that final cut used a specific codec to write it. This is usally not a problem as you can usally go online and download a codec from apple to fix this problem. NOT with this issue, the only way to view this footage would be to install final cut pro. after hours of searching across forums and different disscussin boards i decide it would be better to just recapture the footage form his camera directly to prem, but this is a lesson learnt, if i had a tighter times scale it would really have screwed me over.
skateboard video festival
along side me doing my final major project i came acroos a few short videos people had put up demonstaring there skills in editing and using skateboarding as a main attribute of the video.

The one that really caught my attenetion was a edit called lil balloon, which was jsut a small edit one on set of steps shot with a high speed camera and low lighting and loads of colourfull ballons all over the place, edited to a very earry circus style elctronic beat, the idea is a very simple one but also in the same respect there was a lot creative thought put into the shots used and the sequences http://vimeo.com/3385465
Filming in Leeds
On sunday the 28th of Feb, me, my tutor, and 7 skateboarders headed up to leeds skate park , ‘the works’. Where i spent 4 hours experimenting with lighting and smoke effects whilst incorporating skateboarding. The actual initial idea of what i wanted to do was scrapped due to the amount of light the projectors gave out and and the way they looked on the ramps, so i decide pretty early on to scrap that and just film different obstacles lighting them with the red head light kits and and pumping smoke out onto them as the guys skated it. here are some are some snaps from some of the filming session.
Graphic and visual ideas ?
As for this project i will be projecting visuals on to ramps and obstacles in the skate park, i want these visuals to all link together or share a similar theme apposed to just random odd graphics flying around. M y original idea was to use just black and white as these were the colors i was planning on dressing each other skaters up in (Black trousers, white top) to keep the theme the same, but also i feel that black and white can show a greater effect of emotion and power oppose to just random bright colors?
I could also get this effect by using colours but selecting them very carefully and matchng the up with the colour of the skaters clothing? But this brings me back to the effect of the colours, will it just end up making look like some kind of kids fun park, when i am trying to create a powerfull demonstraive piece of film for skateboarding?
SKATEPARK HIRE DATE CHANGED
Due to a big skateboard event taking place on the 21st of Feb i have had to change it and move it to the following week. A price has now been settled, the hire will cost £60 a hour and we have booked for two hours, but the manager of the skate park has said to call it £150 and if it goes over that time then that will cover it, which is a good deal.
I have also had to change the equipment hire times and have taken a extra tri=pod and camera this time. So hopefully everything is set to go from the 28th of Feb.
filming planning
Now i have more of a idea of what i want to produce for this project i have started to put together some rough story boarded ideas, using images of the skatepark as refrence of where it is possible to shoot. the planne ddate for this trip is on the 21st of Feb, A Saturday, and plan to shoot the whole thing in that one night. All the information you need on the park can be found at http://www.theworksskatepark.co.uk/
work plan
I do have a back plan, as i am unable to hire the camera to take abroad, so my next the skate park for the night i need it, i will also need to book out some equipment to hire, smoke or fog machine, and a bubble machine. strobe lights, normal lighting and cameras.
If i am unable to hire the skate park in Leeds, there is a mini ramp located in the back of a skateboard shop in Southampton so this is another option.
This link is where all of this equipment is available, which is at reasonable prices

So now i am focusing on lighting up a skate park and putting effects to very standard filming methods of skateboarding i have come across these videos, the Nike sb on tap video is more relevant to what i want to do, but other Nike sb video i just find very interesting as it plays of the human perspective
My plans for this project have changed to what i wanted to do originally to due to my university not wanting to help with letting students experiment, i wonder where all the money we all pay for uni actually goes?So because of this I am having to re-think me idea and try to incorporate skateboarding again. As i wanted to create something to demonstrate skateboarding and the interaction in the sport my plan is to hire out a indoor skate and light it up using lights and a projector to project visuals on to the ramps. these visuals will change when tricks are performed and landed. with hopefully if it goes to plan to create better effects with use of a smoke machine. and maybe a low laying fog machine or bubble machine.
the video will be shot in hi-definition and edited in final cut to a selected piece of music.
